[1] The painting, with Constantino Nigro, a dealer based in Genoa, was damaged in the bombing of Genoa during World War II and restored by Cellini, according to notes transcribed from a conversation between Kay Robertson of Loewi-Robertson, Los Angeles and William A. McGonagle, Director, July 1974, Joslyn Art Museum object file.

[2] Gabriel Sonnino of New York is listed as an agent on the customs declaration form of March 14, 1952. He may have been a cousin of Ettore Sestieri, per a letter from Harold Woodbury Parsons to W. Dale Clark, trustee, March 25, 1952, or a brother, per letters from Eugene Kingman, Director, to Gabriel Sonnino, June 23, 1952, and July 26, 1952, Joslyn Art Museum object file.
