Bold Movements in 20th-Century Art
First Saturdays of the month are for art fun! Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages. This month we’re delving into the 20th-century art collection; the expansion of The Joslyn allowed the museum to create gallery spaces dedicated solely to art made between the years 1945 and 2000, a time of immense change and innovation in the art world.
A look at the fun this month from 11 am–2 pm:
- Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the evening. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
- Storytime with Omaha Public Library, 11 am; get comfortable in our new Community Room for this storytime program. There also will be opportunities to learn more about all the great things happening at area libraries.
- Join Poppy, Omaha Public Library’s Mobile Library, for a special giveaway experience! Attendees can pick out a free book from Poppy, thanks to a generous community group in honor of their love for lifelong learning.
- At 12 pm & 1 pm, Omaha Broadway Bar brings a blend of piano bar and cabaret-style performance to The Joslyn, featuring Curtis Reynolds, Monica Weber, Aron Murnane, Tanner Harrod, and Kiley Melean.
- Visit Studio 1 to create a work of art inspired by work in the collection. All ages are welcome.
- Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
- Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
- Due to the generous support of Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, All Aboard: The Railroad in American Art, 1840-1955, is free to all today; always free to Joslyn members.
- The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, stocked with an array of books and games.
- Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale. The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).
Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
