Teachers from all disciplines, who work in Nebraska and western Iowa PK-12 school districts, are welcome to participate in this free program. Join in to connect with other teaching professionals—and yourself—over artful experiences at The Joslyn.
JANUARY PROGRAM
What influences or informs your identity? Teachers will explore the American art galleries to discover how artists portray identity in their work. Then get creative making art together. Select one workshop group below to register for the program.

Groups A&B – Jewelry Making
Join Sicangu Lakota culture bearer Steve Tamayo and teaching artist Kat Anderson to learn about their curriculum collaboration: Jewelry Making: Exploring the Four Tribal Nations of Nebraska. This lesson plan includes different deliverables for K-12 students. Participants will learn about the goals of the project, walk through the curriculum, and create jewelry together.

Group C – Appliqué & Meditation
Learn more about the Indigenous ribbonwork appliqué technique that you will see in Henry Payer’s Appliqué sur le terrain installation. Oglala Lakota beadwork artist Valery Killscrow Copeland will teach you about this artform. Also, you will assemble a meditation candle and discover how to incorporate meditation techniques in your daily life.
