This historical fiction novel tells the story of ten generations of the Echo-Hawk family, recounting the experiences of a people whose lives were shaped by the land, animals, and plants of the Central Plains. These stories of the spiritual side of Native life, give voice to the rich culture and cosmology of the Pawnee Nation. The author, Walter R. Echo-Hawk, is an attorney, tribal judge, author, and law professor. He worked at the epicenter of a great social movement alongside tribal leaders on many issues, including the passage of landmark laws—like the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (1990) and American Indian Religious Freedom Act Amendments (1994).
