Service-Learning Projects

Would your class like to collaborate with The Joslyn on a service-learning project?  We work with the University of Nebraska Omaha’s Service Learning Academy (UNO SLA), and we request UNO instructors contact them to get started. For other higher ed institutions, contact us with your ideas. All projects should be planned in the semester or trimester prior to when they will be part of your syllabus.

Established in partnership with Creighton University’s College of Arts and Sciences in 2024, this initiative now includes University of Nebraska Omaha students who participate in an academic year-long, paid internship program for undergraduates and recent graduates. Known as Gallery Teachers, they lead PK-12 school, higher education, and homeschool family group tours. Through training and practical experience, students build a strong foundation for professional work in the arts, education, and the museum field. Along the way, they also strengthen their critical thinking, adaptability, teamwork, and communication skills, which apply to all career paths.

A group of students sits on the floor and benches in a museum hallway, listening to a guide who points at a colorful abstract painting on the wall. Other artworks are displayed along the marble walls.
