About the Artists:

Lauren Simpson

Choreographer and educator Lauren Simpson conceives site-specific performances that emphasize collaboration across disciplines and call attention to the relationships among movement, sound, and space. Her work explores the intersection of bodies and objects, emphasizing the materiality of the body and the agency of things. She hosts a monthly movement workshop called Horseplay which explores improvisational play, contact improvisation, and movement scores. Discoveries from these workshops inform the choreographic direction for her work in Made in the Plains. Lauren Simpson lives and works in Omaha, Nebraska. Sarah Rowe

Working across painting, textile, and performance, Sarah Rowe takes an unconventional approach to traditional media and cultural practices. Reimagining Indigenous symbology and ceremony, Rowe populates her work with shape-shifting creatures and motifs drawn from the cosmos. Rowe frames her practice as a call to action, encouraging viewers to participate in reshaping long-held perceptions of Native communities. Sarah Rowe lives and works in Omaha, Nebraska.
