Art-tastic Saturdays

CELEBRATING THE PHILLIP G. SCHRAGER COLLECTION
First Saturdays of the month are for art fun! Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages.
This month we’re getting to know some of the fifty-two artworks that are part of the Phillip G. Schrager Collection—large, colorful paintings filled with geometric shapes and abstract designs; monumental steel sculpture; works made with everyday materials like buttons and ceramic plates; and more. Come to spend time in the galleries, enjoy stories and music, and make art of your own.
A look at the fun this month from 11am to 2pm:
- Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the day. You can learn about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
- Out and About Storytime with Omaha Public Library, 11 am; get comfortable in our new Community Room for this storytime program. There also will be opportunities to sign up for a library card, check out a book, and learn more about all the great things happening at area libraries.
- Enjoy short performances by the Omaha Conservatory of Music’s String Sprout musicians at 11:45 am and 1:15 pm in our Fountain Court.
- All students in 4th grade and above can join a Poetry & Music Writing Workshop, held at 1 pm in the Community Room. Opera Omaha and Nebraska Writers Collection are offering this free experience as part of the Poetry & Music Project. The workshop is free, but advance registration can be found here.
- Check out our two Art Cart stations in Hawks Pavilion galleries, with opportunities to talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers, touch hands-on materials, play some Gallery-Games-A-Go-Go, and take home an art prize!
- Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching post-war and contemporary works in the Phillip G. Schrager Collection—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
- Visit Studio 1 for our Exploring The Line art making project, inspired by the different lines found in works in the Phillip G. Schrager Collection. Teaching Artist Stephanie Carlson-Pruch has a variety of materials that can be used to create your own work of art. All ages are welcome.
- The Founders Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, stocked with an array of books and games.
- Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale, The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests, and Art Works: A Place for Curiosity is an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (please note that children must be accompanied by adults).
