Teacher Nights
Teachers from all disciplines, who work in Nebraska and western Iowa PK-12 school districts, are welcome to participate in this free program. Join in to connect with other teaching professionals—and yourself—over artful experiences at The Joslyn.
MARCH PROGRAM
What does it mean to belong? While engaging with artworks, participants will consider what community means to them. Teachers will take what they learn and embody it in their hands-on art experience.
Each registrant will participate in a 30-minute gallery experience and then a 90-minute workshop. Select a group below to register for the program.
ONLINE REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.

GROUP A– PEACE & TRANQUILITY WITH ANDREA JOY
Step into a space of serenity at The Joslyn for peace and tranquility with Andrea Joy, where sound and stillness come together to restore and uplift. This event is a guided sound healing experience designed to help educators release stress, recalibrate their energy, and cultivate a sense of calm that lasts beyond the session. Participants will leave not only with a renewed sense of balance but also with strategies they can integrate into their daily routines—helping them navigate the demands of the classroom with greater ease, clarity, and resilience.
Sound healing is a therapeutic practice that uses vibrational frequencies from instruments like singing bowls, chimes, and voice to guide the body into deep relaxation, promoting emotional balance and mental clarity.
For this workshop, participants will sit or lie on the floor. To ensure comfort, we recommend bringing a yoga mat, blanket, and/or pillow. Chairs will also be available for those who prefer to be seated.
Gallery Experience – Visit the Joslyn Building to explore European art.
GROUP B – WEAVING A CONNECTION
Community is a central value in the artistic world, and fingerweavers are a proud, ever-expanding community. Come together to celebrate our art and learn together at The Joslyn! With lead Tsalagi teaching artist Morgan Mullin, who is joined by teaching artists Danny Mullin (Tsalagi) and Tashena Mason (Occaneechi Saponi), you will learn the basics of warpface fingerweaving, an art form independently discovered by communities around the world that has been done for thousands of years. Here on Turtle Island (Indigenous North America) many tribal Nations have explored and expanded upon this practice with numerous patterns that all begin with the basic motion of weaving one thread from one side to the other. Enjoy the opportunity for the hands-on experience of this creative medium.
Gallery Experience – Visit the Hawks Pavilion to explore contemporary art.
This group is at capacity.
GROUP C – THE ACCORDION BOOK
Inspired by the Riley CAP Gallery exhibition Alex Soth: The Reading Room, investigate the intersection of community and books. Join teaching artist Baylee Bennett as she walks you through her lesson plan on how to create your own accordion style journal using collage methods and paper folding.
Gallery Experience – Visit the exhibition, All Aboard: The Railroad in American Art, 1840–1955.
This group is at capacity.
