[1] Bertha Mengedoht-Hatz was a personal friend of the artist (see letter from Mary Monrad Frederiksen to Bertha Mengedoht-Hatz, 12 November 1942, Joslyn Art Museum, Object File). Frederiksen had also painted a portrait of George Hatz, Mrs. Mengedoht-Hatz’s husband. However, there is no known record of purchase.
