Homeschool Days

Thu Apr 23, 10AM–12PM

Each semester during the school year, The Joslyn offers homeschools and microschools the opportunity to explore art as a family in this free drop-in program from 10 am to noon. Families will rotate through stations in the Museum to engage in gallery experiences and create art.

Storytelling takes many forms at The Joslyn, and artworks hold stories waiting to be told. This school year, we will discover, create, and share them in our programs.

APRIL PROGRAM

Families will explore contemporary art through the theme of embellish, discovering how artists add layers of meaning through words, images, and design. From celebrating Poetry Month with creative language to making zines and expressive masks, participants will experiment, create, and share ideas—adding their own voice and style to art in playful, imaginative ways. Registration required; online registration closes Tue, Apr 21; walk-ins accepted as space allows.

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS OPEN

STATIONS OPEN 10 AM–NOON:

EXPLORE: Planting Seeds: What is Poetry?

Celebrate National Poetry Month at The Joslyn by considering how poetry can connect to artworks. Learn about different types and parts of poetry while connecting with contemporary art. Using these works for inspiration, families will create their own poetry to explore the relationship between writing and the visual arts.

CREATE: Embellished Zines: Storied & Designed

Fold, cut, and create your own zine—a small, folded book full of big ideas! Families will design colorful mosaics or start with words, then transform their pages into unique books by following simple folds and cuts. Explore storytelling and design as you layer images and embellish text to make something entirely your own.

CREATE: The Masks We Wear

How do you want to be seen? How do you see yourself? Families will consider how masks are used in art to protect, represent, enhance, and celebrate identity. Use various materials to create a wearable piece of art, and design a mask that is unique to you!
