Art Break

Thu Jan 15, 12:30PM–1PM

Free, drop-in program.

Join us for a midday break as we spend 30 minutes with one work of art, delving into the slow looking process—an approach that allows for learning and discovery through extended observation time. Kris Bergquist, Head of Community Programs, will introduce and guide the conversation about this work in Gallery J6, Joslyn Building.

Featured Work: Karl Bodmer (Swiss, 1809-1893), Bison Dance of the Mandan Indians in front of their Medicine Lodge in Mih-Tutta-Hankush, 1842 .

This work is part of The Joslyn’s renowned collection of watercolors, journals, and archives documenting the North American expedition (1832-34) of Karl Bodmer and the German naturalist Prince Maximilian of Wied. Bodmer’s depictions of the Mandan and Hidatsa peoples were reference points for the artist Cannupa Hanska Luger in the Dripping Earth: Cannupa Hanska Luger exhibition (Nov 15, 2025-Mar 8, 2026).
