An adult and a child sit at a table doing arts and crafts. The child wears glasses and a hoodie, using glue, while the adult assists. Art supplies, markers, and containers are on the table in front of them.
Two ballet dancers perform on stage, each balancing on one leg with arms raised. One wears a feathered white costume; the other, a yellow dress with leafy details. The background suggests a forest scene.
Three girls sit at a table painting round paper with watercolors in an art classroom. Art supplies, paint palettes, brushes, and paper towels are spread out on the table. A sink and shelves are visible in the background.

Art-tastic Saturday

Sat Feb 7, 11AM–2PM

Love

First Saturdays of the month are for art fun! Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages.  We are inspired by the 500+ responses from our “How do you spread love in the community?” prompt in the Joslyn Building during this past year. We’ll have an array of activities that honor visitors’ ideas about love.

A look at the fun this month from 11 am–2 pm:

  • Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the day. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
  • Performances by American Midwest Ballet.
  • Look at a display of the 500+ cards shared by Museum visitors, answering the prompt of “How do you spread love in the community?”
  • Create two works of art—a beautiful message of love for someone that you know, and another one to give to a community organization that serves people who need support and encouragement.
  • Make seed balls with Mi’oux Stabler (Umoⁿhoⁿ), Prairiescape Designer, using native seeds from The Joslyn’s gardens that can be planted and cared for through the seasons.
  • Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
  • Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
  • Join a public tour, led by our Gallery Volunteers; 11 am, Dripping Earth: Cannupa Hanska Luger; and at 1 pm, The Joslyn’s Highlights. Free, drop-in experiences.
  • The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event.
  • Due to the generous support of Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, Dripping Earth: Cannupa Hanska Luger, is free to all today; always free to Joslyn members.
  • Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale. The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).

Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All Program, the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, Omaha Steaks, a gift in memory of Matthew W. Gress, and a gift in loving memory of Peggy Severson.

Sponsorship for this program series provided by FNBO and Omaha Steaks.

Thanks to program partners Omaha Public Library and American Midwest Ballet.
