Central High School Marching Band + Paul Pfeiffer: Red Green Blue
Join us for an evening inspired by a new work in our Media Gallery—featuring a live performance by the Central High School Marching Band on The Joslyn’s Grand Lawn.
Activities at The Joslyn and Central High School:
5:30 pm at The Joslyn – Central High School Marching Band performs their fight song on The Joslyn’s Grand Lawn, with a short introduction from Chiyo Trauernicht and Jeff Mount, instrumental music teachers. All visitors are invited to march to the beat of the band, following them to the Seemann Stadium at Central High School to watch a performance of this season’s marching show, “T Squared,” featuring music from Tchaikovsky and Taylor Swift, arranged by Jeff Chambers. The band is rehearsing for the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association (NSBA) State Marching Contest on Sat, Oct 25.
Paul Pfeiffer: Red Green Blue is on view now through Apr 26 (Hawks Pavilion, Media Gallery H6)
This exhibition stitches together audio and video recordings the artist made of the University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band. Named for an image display system that responds to how the human eye perceives color, this immersive video installation layers sensory components to reproduce the experience of attending a college football game. Upending expectations, Pfeiffer shifts focus away from the competing teams to the student musicians, band conductors, and support staff who collaborate to execute such carefully-orchestrated performances.
