Homeschool Days

Thu Feb 19, 10AM–12PM

Each semester during the school year, The Joslyn offers homeschools and microschools the opportunity to explore art as a family in this free drop-in program from 10 am to noon. Families will rotate through stations in the Museum to engage in gallery experiences, create art, and learn something new with a community partner.

Storytelling takes many forms at The Joslyn, and artworks hold stories waiting to be told. This school year, we will discover, create, and share them in our programs.

FEBRUARY PROGRAM
Families will visit Dripping Earth: Cannupa Hanska Luger to explore how art can strengthen community with shared stories, care, and connection. Through close looking and hands-on activities, participants will create, reimagine materials, and share messages of community from a local to a global perspective. Registration required; online registration closes Tue, Feb 17; walk-ins accepted as space allows.

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS CLOSED
Contact us if you would like to attend the program.

STATIONS OPEN 10 AM–NOON:
EXPLORE: Hands-On Highlights
Visit the immersive exhibition Dripping Earth, and study the ceramics, video projections, prints, and monumental sculpture. Stop by the Art Cart to explore hands-on materials, discovering the textures, patterns, and materials Luger uses.

CREATE: River Guides
Float to The Fountain Court, where you will create a recycled material sculpture inspired by Cannupa Hanska Luger’s A Nation and Máadiraxbi I and II on view in Dripping Earth. Participants will work with glue, pipe cleaners, sponges, egg cartons, rubber bands, and more! By combining repurposed items into “river guides,” discover the reimagined out of the discarded.

CREATE: Community Buttons
What message would you like to share with our community? Design unique buttons filled with words or pictures of hope, kindness, and love. Keep one for yourself and leave one behind to brighten someone else’s day!
