Homeschool Days
Each semester during the school year, The Joslyn offers homeschools and microschools the opportunity to explore art as a family in this free drop-in program from 10 am to noon. Families will rotate through stations in the Museum to engage in gallery experiences and create art.
CONNECTIONS
Art has a way of connecting the dots—between ideas, people, places, and ourselves. This school year, explore the relationships woven through art and discover how they shape the way we see the world.
OCTOBER PROGRAM
Families will visit the exhibition Sadie Barnette and create art inspired by it while exploring how artists turn ideas into images, objects, and experiences. Registration required; online registration closes Tue, Oct 27; walk-ins accepted as space allows.

STATIONS OPEN 10 AM–NOON:
EXPLORE: Words & Wonder
Visit Sadie Barnette and discover how she uses words, images, and everyday objects to tell stories. At the Art Cart, families will experiment with hands-on materials and consider how meaningful words—like mom, dad, sister, or brother—can express relationships, spark memories, and inspire art. What words would you choose to tell your story?
CREATE: Word Play
How can a single word become more than a word? In this printmaking workshop led by Teaching Artist Therese Straseski, participants will press words into foam printing sheets, ink their plates, and experiment with spinning, repeating, and layering their prints to transform language into patterns and visual compositions. Play with language, movement, and repetition to discover new ways of turning ideas into art.
CREATE: Rainbow Dots: Celebration Buttons
Balloons, dots, and words: what would you use to celebrate? Inspired by Sadie Barnette’s exhibition, use colored pencils to layer dots and patterns in every color of the rainbow, carefully building a bright, densely patterned button with Gallery Teachers. Add meaningful words to celebrate the people, moments, and little things that make life special.
Online registration closes Oct 27; walk-in registrations accepted as space allows. Do you have an inquiry? Contact us.
