Three women stand in an art gallery, observing abstract paintings. One wears a red dress, the second a floral dress, and the third a green dress. In the background, a man walks past more artwork.

Teacher Nights

Thu Nov 20, 4:30PM–7:30PM

Teachers from all disciplines, who work in Nebraska and western Iowa PK-12 school districts, are welcome to participate in this free program. Join in to connect with other teaching professionals—and yourself—over artful experiences at The Joslyn.

NOVEMBER PROGRAM
Storytelling takes many forms at The Joslyn, and artworks hold stories waiting to be told. This school year, we will discover, create, and share them in our programs. For Teacher Nights this month, we consider the past, present, and future. Each registrant will participate in a 30-minute gallery experience and then a 90-minute workshop. Select a group below to register for the program.  Online registration opens here on Thu, Nov 6.

GROUP A – STORIES IN BLUE: CYANOTYPING
Cyanotypes freeze a moment in time—capturing shadows, shapes, and stories in Prussian blue. With teaching artist Josephine Langbehn, use simulated sunlight, composition, and a centuries-old process to create cyanotype prints that blur past, present, and future. Experiment with objects and imagery and leave with a one-of-a-kind print.
Group A is at capacity.

GROUP B – WEAVING A STORY
Threads, images, and textures—what story will you weave next? Join teaching artist Therese Straseski to create a loom on canvas board and combine photographs, fabrics, and fibers into a visual narrative. Together, you will experiment with materials, explore patterns, and incorporate personal touches inspired by artist Sheila Hicks, showing how art can come alive one thread at a time. Registrants are encouraged to bring their own photographs to weave into their work.

GROUP C – COPY & PASTE: COLLAGING NEW IMAGES
Every image has a past—so what story will you tell next? In this hands-on collage workshop with teaching artist Harrison Cook, cut, layer, and remix vintage visuals into a new 2D artwork that speaks to both what was and what could be. Explore the elements of art through creating and conversation, and leave with a finished work that proves old pictures can sparkle with new stories.

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.
