Art Camps

Mon–Fri: Jun 2-6; 9 am–noon
Roam the galleries to find paintings that purr and sculptures that leap and bound. We’ll see how artists use texture, pattern and shape to make life-like animal artworks. After our safari through the Museum, we’ll return to the studio to make sculpture, paintings, and prints of animals.

Artsy Animals

Mon–Fri: Jun 9–13; 9 am–noon
This camp will introduce little ones to some of The Joslyn’s most well-known artists. We’ll visit the galleries to meet Claude Monet, Amy Sherald, Helen Frankenthaler, and others. In the studio we’ll investigate each artist’s style while making artworks of our own.

The Joslyn Who’s Who

Mon–Fri: Jul 7-11; 9 am–noon
Young artists will get “art smart” by learning about the elements and language of art and exploring a variety of media. We’ll visit artworks in the gallery and fill our brains with ideas before creating paintings, sculptures, and prints in the studio.

Art Smart 

Mon–Fri: Jul 21–25; 9 am–noon
Campers will explore sculpture in the galleries to see many ways artists create work that is three-dimensional. We’ll investigate lots of different materials, tools, and techniques to model, build, and assemble sculpture in the studio.

Painting Possibilities (B)

Joslyn Members: $136 per camp; General Public: $160 per camp 
Campers pairing morning and afternoon sessions for a day-long experience may bring lunch and join the supervised Lunch Bunch.

Strengthen your drawing skills! Through model studies and observational exercises this camp will teach you to accurately render proportion, perspective, mass, and value, using media including pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink.

Drawing 

Mon–Fri: Jun 23–27; 1–4 pm
In this camp we’ll learn ways to combine art materials and techniques to tell a story of the present moment. After gaining inspiration from the exhibition Made in the Plains we’ll use drawing, printmaking, painting, and sculptural techniques to explore universal human themes in art.

Mixed Media 

Mon–Fri: Jul 14–18; 1–4 pm
This camp will teach the basics of oil painting as we learn to use a brush, palette knife, and layers of color to create observational painting studies. We’ll blend colors, use oil mediums, and incorporate tints and shades to render forms and make the objects we paint look real.

Oil Painting
