$40
Exhibition catalog featuring new work by Cannupa Hanska Luger, reimagining Indigenous histories through ceramics, video, and performance. Published by Joslyn Art Museum.
Description
Dripping Earth presents new and transformative work by multidisciplinary artist Cannupa Hanska Luger (b. 1979), whose practice blends ceramics, video, performance, and installation to envision an Indigenous future rooted in resilience and connection. Born on the Standing Rock Reservation and deeply tied to the northern Plains, Luger reimagines histories through contemporary forms. Inspired by Karl Bodmer’s nineteenth-century watercolors in the Joslyn Art Museum’s collection, Dripping Earth reframes these depictions through an Indigenous lens, responding with monumental ceramics, immersive video projections, and the life-size bison dancers known as Midéegaadi. Together, these works honor the vitality of land, identity, and story, inviting a collective vision of reclamation and renewal.
Published by Joslyn Art Museum, this richly illustrated catalog features essays and dialogues that expand on Luger’s themes of cultural continuity, community, and ecological stewardship.
