Possibly with Charles B. Hickcox, possibly New York [1];
With Newhouse Galleries, New York, on joint account with unknown shareholders, by 1973;
Purchased from Newhouse Galleries by Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha, Nebraska, 1974.
[1] In correspondence concerning the sale transaction, there were multiple inquiries by former Joslyn Art Museum director William A. McGonagle to Clyde Newhouse to meet Charles B. Hickcox when he was visiting New York. A previous cataloguing sheet listed to ask McGonagle if Hickcox and family were the previous owners of the van Es, or if the inquiries were unrelated. See Joslyn Art Museum object file.
