This Cookies Notice explains how Joslyn Art Museum (“The Joslyn“, “we“, “us” and “our“) uses cookies and similar technologies on joslyn.org (the “Website“). In this notice, “cookies” covers every technology that stores or reads information on your device, including browser storage such as localStorage.
Apart from cookies the Website needs to work, we only set cookies once you have agreed to them in our cookie banner. You can change your choices at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, or block cookies in your browser as explained in section 4. Declining some cookies may stop certain features from working, such as embedded forms and videos.

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit it. On later visits, your browser sends the cookie back to the website that set it, or to another website that recognizes it. Cookies help websites work, remember your choices, and tell site owners how their pages are used.
Websites can also keep information in your browser in other ways, such as localStorage, sessionStorage and IndexedDB. These work in a similar way to cookies and are included in the tables in section 3.
First-party and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting, in this case joslyn.org. Third-party cookies are set by another company, for example a video or form service embedded in one of our pages. We do not control third-party cookies, and their providers can change how they use them at any time. Section 4 explains how to manage them.
Session and persistent cookies. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them, which lets a website recognize your device when you return.
Pixels and web beacons. Some services use tiny invisible images or scripts, often called pixels or web beacons, to record that a page was viewed or an ad was clicked. They usually work together with cookies, so declining the related cookies also stops them from recognizing you.

What types of cookies do we use?
The cookies we use match the categories you can choose from in our cookie banner: essential, functionality, analytics and marketing. Content embedded from other services is covered separately in part 5 below. Third-party providers update their cookies regularly, so names and durations may change.
1. Cookies necessary for essential website purposes
These cookies are needed for the Website to work and cannot be switched off in the cookie banner. They let you use the shop cart and checkout, stay signed in to your shop account, search the shop and filter the online collection, and they store your cookie choices. You can block them in your browser, but parts of the Website will then stop working.

2. Functionality cookies
Functionality cookies remember details of your visit so the Website behaves the way you would expect, for example by not replaying the opening animation on every page. They are only set if you allow functionality cookies in the cookie banner.

4. Marketing cookies
Marketing cookies are set by Shopify, which runs our museum shop. They record visits to the shop to measure and improve the relevance of product promotions and ads. These cookies are only set if you allow marketing cookies.

5. Embedded content
Some pages include content from other services, such as Typeform forms and YouTube videos. These services set their own cookies and use them for their own purposes, including analytics and advertising. Embedded content only loads after you allow marketing cookies; until then, a placeholder is shown in its place.

How to control or delete cookies
When you first visit the Website, our cookie banner lets you accept or decline each category of non-essential cookies.
