Four people stand in a gallery, observing various paintings on a pink wall. The largest painting has an ornate gold frame; others are smaller with simple frames. The floor is dark wood, and a gray bench is in the foreground.

Nights at The Joslyn

Thu Oct 1, 5PM–8PM

Celebrating Café Culture

Free, drop-in program

Monthly Nights at The Joslyn events are evenings for art immersion. Come out for art talks, art making, special programs, and tasty food and drinks (for purchase). This month, get ready for French frivolity and fun with a focus on art in the exhibition, Café Society: Art and Sociability in Paris, 1855–1914.

A look at the fun this month from 5–8 pm:

  • Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the evening. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
  • Don’t miss a 6 pm conversation in Abbott Hall* about the Café Society exhibition with Taylor J. Acosta, PhD, Chief Curator and Director of Collections, Peter H. Fox, PhD, Willis A. Strauss Associate Curator of European Art, and Camryn Moore, Rae and Bill Dyer Curatorial Assistant.
  • At 5:15 and 7 pm, enjoy Opera Omaha artists performing selections from La bohème, one of Giacomo Puccini’s most beloved operas.
  • In the Studio, create a cozy still life inspired by the charm of a French café with Teaching Artist CaSandra Johnson.
  • Slow down and sketch in the galleries.
  • Check out our Art Cart, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
  • Be a part of the art! Visit the Café Society selfie station and “step in” to a nineteenth-century painting by James Tissot. Post your photo on Instagram and tag @joslynartmuseum with #MeetMeAtTheCafe to be featured in The Joslyn’s Café Society Highlight.
  • The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event.
  • Café Society: Art and Sociability in Paris, 1855–1914 is free to all from 4–8 pm today; always free to Joslyn members.
  • Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale. The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).

*Assistive listening system is available in Abbott Hall.

American Sign Language interpretation available by request, with three weeks notice; email abelme@joslyn.org.

Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All Program, the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, a gift in memory of Matthew W. Gress, and a gift in loving memory of Peggy Severson
