Celebrating Café Culture
Free, drop-in program
Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages. This month, get ready for French frivolity and fun with a focus on art in the exhibition, Café Society: Art and Sociability in Paris, 1855–1914.
A look at the fun this month from 11 am–2 pm:
- Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the day. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
- Out & About Storytime with Omaha Public Library, 11 am.
- At 12 pm, enjoy a lively can-can performance by American Midwest Ballet, featuring high kicks, energetic choreography, and plenty of flair. Be sure to visit the American Midwest Ballet community partner table to learn more about their upcoming productions and community programs.
- In the studio, create a cozy still life inspired by the charm of a French café with Teaching Artist CaSandra Johnson.
- Slow down and sketch in the galleries.
- Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
- Join a public tour: Café Society Public Tour at 11 am, and The Joslyn Highlights Public Tour, at 1 pm; both tours are led by Gallery Volunteers, and begin in the Hawks Pavilion, Entry Atrium.
- Visit the Café Society selfie station and “step in” to a painting by James Tissot. Post your photo on Instagram and tag @joslynartmuseum with #MeetMeAtTheCafe to be featured in The Joslyn’s Café Society Highlight.
- The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event.
- Café Society: Art and Sociability in Paris, 1855–1914 is free to all today; always free to Joslyn members.
- Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale. The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).
