Teacher Nights
Teachers from all disciplines, who work in Nebraska and western Iowa PK-12 school districts, are welcome to participate in this free program. Join in to connect with other teaching professionals—and yourself—over artful experiences at The Joslyn.
CONNECTIONS
Art has a way of connecting the dots—between ideas, people, places, and ourselves. This school year, explore the relationships woven through art and discover how they shape the way we see the world.
SEPTEMBER PROGRAM
Connections to Ideas: Explore how artists turn ideas into images, objects, and experiences. Participants will view the exhibition Sadie Barnette and connect to more works in The Joslyn’s collection as part of a guided gallery experience.
Each registrant will participate in a 30-minute gallery experience and then a 90-minute workshop. Select a group below to register for the program.
GROUP A – WORD PLAY: PRINT, SPIN & REPEAT
How can a single word become more than a word? In this printmaking workshop led by Teaching Artist Therese Straseski, participants will carve words into rubber and experiment with spinning, repeating, and layering their prints to transform language into patterns and visual compositions. Play with language, movement, and repetition to discover new ways of turning ideas into art.
Group A is at capacity.
GROUP B – IDEAS TAKE SHAPE: ASSEMBLAGE
What happens when you put unexpected things together? Inspired by Sadie Barnette’s work, Teaching Artist Abby Jordan will lead participants in an open-ended assemblage activity that explores how artists turn ideas into objects. Discover simple, process-oriented approaches that invite young students to experiment, make connections, and see where their ideas take them.
Register for Group B
FREE program; online registration closes Sep 21 (or when it reaches capacity); walk-in registrations accepted as space allows.
